L-R:
Arthur, Lloyd, Slim, Esso.
Formed by ex-Lurker, Arthur Billingsley, the Blubbery Hellbellies were one of the original "Cowpunk" bands. They released three excellent albums, At Large, Flabbergasted and Cafe Blur. A few of their songs still survive in the Slim's Cyder Co. set- Adge Cutler's Drink Up Thee Cider, My Baby, She's As Fat As Me (written by Boz Boorer, who isn't fat at all and is currently guitar player and musical director for Morrissey) and Slim's own Perfect Woman and the classic (Is It Love Or) Food Poisoning?.
Their first album contained mainly covers of classics like Green Green Grass Of Home, Walk Tall, and Please Release Me, with only two original songs, Arthur's I Don't Wanna Get Thin and the aforementioned Perfect Woman. Later albums featured more of Arthur's song writing and his wry sense of humour.
Although the band didn't set the record charts on fire, they had much critical acclaim in the music press and built up a large cult following all over Europe and are still fondly remembered by their fans.
Arthur has returned to his punk roots and can currently be seen with The Lurkers and 999.
Big Billy is now playing with Chrissie Lane's Rhythm Wranglers and rehearsing with his new band The Bacon Grabbers.
A later line-up of the blubs, with Danny and Big Billy replacing Esso and Lloyd on drums and bass respectively.
