In 1978, the New Musical Express ran a competition to find
the Champion Blockhead. Contestants submitted a photograph of
themselves and the winner was chosen by Ian Dury. The top prize
was a rare limited edition Ian Dury EP, an autographed copy of
Ian's album "New Boots And Panties" (a classic you should
track down if you do not already have a copy), a pair of new boots
and panties, plus a night out with Ian Dury And The Blockheads.
The outright winner was Slim (then known as Clive Pain from
Alton, Hants).
